The wider community increasingly uses online payments because of convenience and greater security than offline payments. One of the digital payments often used by the public is the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard or QRIS.
Not only used by the wider community, but QRIS is also widely used by shop/merchant owners because it can make transactions faster, easier, and properly recorded, and providing digital payments such as QRIS can also encourage increased transactions at shops/merchants.
In addition, using QRIS is also more profitable for shops/merchants because the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) fees charged from QRIS transactions are lower than other digital payment methods.
For more details, we will first discuss MDR QRIS and the new rates here.
What is MDR QRIS?
QRIS Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) is a fee charged to merchants/shops by Payment System Service Providers (PJSP) for every QRIS transaction. The MDR amount and MDR distribution will be determined separately by Bank Indonesia.
The reason for setting the MDR fee is to maintain the continuity of the implementation of QRIS transaction services for the community and to cover costs arising from the provision of QRIS services.
MDR must be paid by merchants/shops to PJSP so that it is not allowed to be charged to consumers who cause product or service price increases. So, you don't need to worry that your fees will be more expensive.
QRIS MDR fees
Currently, there is a change in the MDR rate for Micro Businesses, which will take effect from 1 July 2023. Micro Businesses (with annual sales of not more than IDR 300,000,000) will be charged a fee of 0.3% from the previous 0%. Despite the increase, QRIS' MDR fees are still very competitive compared to other payment methods (see table).
